Squadron 44 is a composite squadron (offering programs for Cadet and Senior members) of the
Civil Air Patrol, an Auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

Squadron 44 meets in the Terminal building, located at Buchanan Field Airport. Visitors are welcome to attend any meeting, however prospective cadets must be accompinied by a parent or legal guardian. Cadets and Seniors meet every Monday evening, beginning at 7:00 PM.
Perhaps the best known activity of the Civil Air Patrol is its air search and rescue function and its participation in disaster relief missions. CAP pilots fly approximately 90 percent of all search and rescue missions in this country. CAP has more than 530 aircraft located around the country. Flying activities include:
Each year, Civil Air Patrol flies approximately 70,000 hours, with 20,000 hours devoted to emergency services missions.
The cadet program is designed to inspire young people between the ages of 13 and 18 to become leaders and dynamic American citizens through an interest in aviation. Through studies and other activities, cadets work their way through a series of achievements where they:
Become and remain physically fit through a special physical fitness program. Squadron 44s cadet program has a history of success: in 1986, it won first place in the National Cadet Competition. It has previously been successful as well, having come in second in 1985 and third in 1982.
Civil Air Patrol aerospace education programs help inform the public about air and space matters. Over the past thirty years, Civil Air Patrol has supported aerospace workshops for teachers and education officials to enable them to offer aerospace education courses in their school or to enrich the usual classroom subjects.
